Flat prices

What does computer repair cost in Syracuse?

These are fixed prices for whole jobs, not estimates and not starting points. If your machine needs one of these, this is the number. If it needs something else, we say so before we start.

Also published

Three more figures sit on our rate card without a description attached to them, and we would rather print them here than let you meet them on an invoice: an in-store diagnostic fee of $99, Front Desk Service at $139, and Windows or Mac password removal at $99.

The diagnostic fee is the one that matters, because it is the only charge on this page you can pay without anything being repaired. Our rate card does not say whether it comes off the repair afterwards. Ask us when you drop the machine off and we will tell you before we take it in.

When it is not a flat job

How is hourly work billed?

Some problems do not fit a fixed price, so those are hourly. Here are the three ways we work on a home machine, the published rate for each, and the billing rule that goes with it.

Remote

We connect to your computer from here and fix it while you stay where you are. Fastest route for anything that is not physically broken.

$189 an hour

Billed in 30 minute increments.

In store

You bring it to 511 East Genesee St in Fayetteville. Hands on the hardware, and same appointment resolution where the job allows it.

$189 an hour

Billed in 30 minute increments, plus parts as needed.

On site at your house

For printers, a desktop nobody wants to unplug, a router in a closet, or anything that has to be seen where it lives.

$199 an hour

First hour billed as a full hour, then 30 minute increments.

Read this

The number $199 appears on this page three separate times and means three different things every time: $199 flat for one install with data recovery, $199 an hour for on-site work at a house, and $199 a month for the Platinum plan below. Whenever you see a figure here, the unit is printed right next to it. If two of us are ever talking about a different $199, say so and we will stop and sort it out.

The on-site rule is the other one worth reading twice. On site, the first hour is billed as a full hour whether it takes the full hour or not, and only the time after that is cut into 30 minute increments. Remote and in-store work has no such rule: it is 30 minute increments from the start.

Not sure whether your problem is a flat job or an hourly one? That is the question the phone call answers, and it costs nothing to ask. Call (315) 682-6372 or book a time.

What actually happens

What does a typical repair involve, and what makes one cost more?

Most home jobs are not dramatic. You call, we ask what the machine is doing, and it is usually one of four things: it is slow and full, something got installed that should not have been, the operating system is damaged, or a part has failed. The first three are the flat prices above. The fourth is a hardware repair.

  • You tell us the symptom, not the diagnosis. Slow, loud, blue screen, will not turn on, pop-ups. That is enough for us to tell you which line on the rate card you are probably looking at.
  • We pick remote, in store, or your house. Whichever is fastest and cheapest for the actual problem, which is not always the one you would expect.
  • You hear the price before we start. If it turns into a different job partway through, that is a phone call to you, not a bigger invoice at the end.

One counter, one bench, one town. Same address since 2005, and the person who takes the machine in is the person who calls you back.

No stock photography on this page. This frame holds the facts until a real photograph of the Fayetteville counter has been shot for it. We would rather show you nothing than show you somebody else’s shop.

What makes a repair cost more than the flat price?

Six things move it, and none of them is a surprise if you know them in advance. Software problems are where the flat prices live. Hardware, failing drives, parts and travel are where the number climbs. Read the table, then tell us which of these sounds like your machine and we will tell you which line applies before you commit to anything.

What we look atWhich way it moves the price
Software or hardwareDown for software. That is where the $149, $169 and $179 flat prices live. Up for hardware, which becomes a level 1 or level 2 repair.
Whether the drive is failingUp. Getting your files off a dying drive is the $199 install line, not the $179 one.
Whether it needs a partUp. In-store work is published as plus parts as needed, so the part is its own cost on top of the labor.
Where the work happensUp for your house. Remote and in store are published at $189 an hour, on site at a home is $199 an hour with the first hour billed whole.
How long it runsUp in half hour steps once a job is hourly rather than flat. Flat price jobs do not move with the clock at all.
How many machinesUp per machine. Two computers is two jobs at these prices, not one job with a discount we have not published.
Monthly plans

What does a home IT plan cost per month?

The other way to buy is to stop buying repairs one at a time. These three home plans are published on our own plan sheet, printed here exactly as they are written there.

Essential
Bitdefender GZ antivirus plus SyncroMSP, watching the machine so you do not have to.

Or $95 a year

Ask about Platinum
  • Everything in Gold
  • One hour of prepaid support each month, remote or in person
  • Up to two in-store drop-offs each month
  • Tune-ups, malware clean up and upgrades with no labor charge
Before you sign up

Our published plan sheet does not state how many devices each plan covers, how long the commitment runs, how you cancel, or whether an unused prepaid hour rolls into the next month. We are not going to invent answers to those on a webpage, and you should not buy a subscription without them.

So ask. Call (315) 682-6372, tell us how many computers are in the house, and we will tell you what the plan actually covers and what it commits you to before you pay for anything.

Honest answer

You probably do not need a plan if…

Most households that call us do not need a subscription, and we would rather say that here than talk you into one on the phone. If most of this sounds like you, pay for the one job when the one job happens.

  • You have one computer, it works, and you have not called anyone about it in a year. A plan would be insurance against a thing that is not happening.
  • Your files already copy somewhere you trust, and you have actually opened one of those copies recently to check it is real. That is the part most people skip.
  • You run updates when they appear and you do not open attachments you were not expecting. That is most of what antivirus is protecting you from anyway.
  • The machine is still under the maker’s warranty and the fault is hardware. Call them first. It costs you nothing and it may cost us the job. Call them anyway.
  • You need one specific thing done once. A password removed, a fresh install, a mailbox moved. Those are flat prices on this page, not a subscription.
  • The computer is old enough that the repair is a real share of a replacement. Ask us and we will tell you it is not worth doing, even though the repair is the thing we get paid for.

Do you charge a fee just to look at it?

In store, yes. Our published rate card lists an in-store diagnostic fee of $99. It is the only charge on this page you can pay without anything being repaired, so we would rather you read it here than find it on an invoice. The rate card does not say whether it is credited toward the repair, so ask when you drop the machine off and we will tell you before we take it in.

Will you fix it today?

Sometimes. Remote support can start on the phone call, which is the fastest route for anything that is not physically broken. In-store work is booked for hands-on, same appointment resolution where the job allows it. We do not publish a turnaround time, because a failing drive and a slow laptop are not the same job. Call (315) 682-6372 and we will tell you what today actually looks like.

Is my data safe while you have my computer?

Back it up before you hand it over. That is true of any shop, including this one. Then be specific about what you are buying: our rate card lists a $199 install with data recovery and imaging, and our booking page lists $199 with data migration. Those are different jobs. We will tell you which one your machine needs, and what happens to your files, before we start.

Do you come to my house, or do I bring it in?

Three ways, three published rates. Remote, we connect to your machine and fix it from here, $189 an hour. In store, you bring it to 511 East Genesee St in Fayetteville, $189 an hour plus parts as needed. On site at your house, $199 an hour, with the first hour billed as a full hour. On site visits cover all of Upstate New York.

Should I repair this computer or replace it?

Ask us before you spend. These prices stack. A level 2 hardware repair is $189, and an install with data recovery is a further $199, and at some point that is more money than the machine deserves. We do not earn anything by talking you into a repair that will not last. Sometimes the honest answer is to buy a new one, and we will say so on the phone.

Ask, do not assume

Six things this page cannot answer for you

A rate card is not a contract, and ours does not cover everything. Rather than fill the gaps with confident-sounding guesses, here is the honest list, and every one of them gets answered on the phone before you commit to anything.

  1. How many devices a home plan covers. Our plan sheet publishes prices but no device count, and a three computer household needs that number before it can decide.
  2. Whether the $99 in-store diagnostic fee applies to your job, and whether it comes off the repair if you go ahead. Not stated anywhere, so ask.
  3. What separates a level 1 hardware repair at $129 from a level 2 at $189 on your particular machine. Neither of our published sources defines the line.
  4. Whether your $199 install is data recovery and imaging or data migration. Our rate card and our booking page describe it differently, and those are different jobs.
  5. What Front Desk Service at $139 actually is. It sits on the rate card with a price and no description. Ask what it covers before you agree to it.
  6. What a monthly plan commits you to. The plan sheet publishes no contract length and no cancellation term, so get both said out loud before you subscribe.

That list exists because we would rather publish the gaps than paper over them. Call (315) 682-6372 and we will close every one of them for your situation, at no charge and with nothing owed after.

Questions

What people ask before they call

How much does a computer tune-up cost in Syracuse?

A tune-up or operating system repair is a flat $149 on our published rate card. The published scope is to fully update or upgrade Windows, update your third party apps, repair system imperfections and optimize space. If the machine turns out to have a hardware fault underneath, that is a separate line and we tell you before we touch it.

How much does virus and malware removal cost?

Malware removal is a flat $169, and our rate card states the tune-up is included in that price. The published scope is to remove virus and spyware, clear notifications and uninstall remote access tools. If you have already paid for a tune-up and then need malware removal, call us at (315) 682-6372 before you book so you are not paying for the same work twice.

Do you charge by the hour or a flat price?

Both, and you get told which one before you agree to anything. The common jobs are flat: $149, $169, $179 and $199 depending on the job. Anything that does not fit a flat price is hourly: $189 an hour remote or in store, $199 an hour on site at your home. Hourly work is billed in 30 minute increments.

Is there a fee just to look at my computer?

In store, yes. Our published rate card lists an in-store diagnostic fee of $99. We publish it here rather than leave it in a PDF, because a fee you did not expect is the worst way to meet a repair shop. The rate card does not state whether it is credited toward the repair, so ask us when you drop the machine off.

What does a home IT plan cost per month?

Our published home plan sheet lists three: Essential at $9 a month or $95 a year, Gold at $49 a month, and Platinum at $199 a month. Essential is Bitdefender GZ antivirus plus SyncroMSP monitoring. Gold adds Synology backup. Platinum adds one hour of prepaid support each month and up to two in-store drop-offs.

Do you come to my house in Syracuse?

Yes. On-site service at a home is $199 an hour, with the first hour billed as a full hour and 30 minute increments after that. We work on site anywhere in Upstate New York, and the towns we are in constantly are Syracuse, Fayetteville, Baldwinsville, Cazenovia, Chittenango, Lafayette, Jamesville, Liverpool, Manlius, Minoa and Tully.

Do I have to sign a contract for a home plan?

Our published plan sheet does not state a contract length, a device count or a cancellation term, so we are not going to state one here either. Ask us on the phone and we will tell you what you are agreeing to before you sign up for anything. If a monthly plan is not right for you, pay per job at the flat prices above.

How do I book a repair?

Call (315) 682-6372 and talk to a person, or book online at expresssupport.com/booking/. Tell us what the machine is doing and whether you want it handled remotely, in store at 511 East Genesee St in Fayetteville, or on site at your home. We will tell you which price on this page applies before you commit.

TELL US WHAT IT IS DOING

Not sure which line on this page you are looking at?

Describe what the machine is doing and what you need back from it. We will tell you which price above applies to your job, and whether the job is worth doing at all.

  • It goes to our office in Fayetteville, not a call centre.
  • You get a scope and a figure before anything is ordered or started.
  • If a repair is not worth the money, you will hear that first.
So we can call you back about this.
A sentence is plenty. Rough is fine, we will ask the rest on the call.

We use this to reply to you and nothing else. No list, no sharing, no follow up you did not ask for.

If you are locked out or it will not boot, call instead

A form waits for someone to read it. If you cannot reach your files or the machine will not start at all, pick up the phone. That is faster.

The form is the better route for a quote to look over, a planned upgrade, or anything you want in writing first.
